Since debuting as Kenickie in his second-grade production of “Grease,” Jovon Barnes has been a frequent name on local theater cast lists, performing in upwards of 35 shows since 2009. He has portrayed roles such as the Scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz,” Seaweed J. Stubbs in “Hairspray,” God in “Children of Eden,” Bobby Strong in “Urinetown,” Sebastian in “The Little Mermaid,” Donkey in “Shrek: The Musical,” and Willard in “Footloose,” for which he received a nomination for Best Male Supporting Role at the 2015 E.S.T.A Awards. Jovon joined CaPAA in fall 2014, playing Chad Danforth in “High School Musical” and taking vocal lessons with their excellent staff.
Jovon will graduate from North Pocono High School in June 2016, after which he will be pursuing a degree in Music Recording Technology at Luzerne County Community College for two years. He hopes to have a role in the music industry, whether singing his own material or producing for other artists, as music has always been a substantial part of his life. He is thrilled to be joining the 2016 CaPAA Summer Camp team as an intern and hopes to encourage the young people in NEPA to challenge themselves, take risks and enjoy their time in the arts!
