Creative and Performing Arts Academy of NEPA presents a “West Side Story” Musical Theater Masterclass led by Daniel Kermidas, with a focus on “Acting Through Dance.”

Class Duration: 2 hours

Age Range: Middle, High School and Adult Dancers
Open Level- any type of dancer at any level of training

Students will have the incredible opportunity to learn choreography from the classic Broadway show, West Side Story. The class will include a twenty-five-minute warm-up, across the floor work and original (1957) Jerome Robins West Side Story choreography. Students will learn to use proper dance technique as a tool to help build character and storyline through the performance of dance. The last 30 minutes of class will be open to questions in regards to the Broadway industry, auditions, unions, and other aspects of the Broadway community.

This will be a closed room. Parents, guardians, friends, and family will not be permitted to watch class until the question and answer portion. (4:30-5PM)

REQUIRED DRESS CODE: Please note, all students must wear form-fitting, black dance clothes – preferably no logos or baggy sweatpants.

Girls: Character heels or flat shoes. Unitards, Jazz pants, or leotards with tights, shorts, and or long form-fitting pants. Please make sure to have your hair up.

Boys: Form fitting black pants, or jazz pants. (No colors, or large distracting logos). Black T-shirt or tank top.

Character shoes or jazz flats are acceptable.

About the Artist:
Daniel Kermidas is an NYC based Broadway performer. He was born and raised in Endicott, NY where he was trained in dance at Amber Perkins School of the Arts. He also performed for many community theaters in the area, the Endicott Performing Arts Center and SRO Productions for example. Daniel went to school at Marymount Manhattan College to get his BFA in Dance and a minor in Musical Theater. Daniel has traveled and toured the country with Broadway shows such as Broadway’s 2009 Revival of West Side Story (Arab, Baby John), 2010 Tony Award-winning, Memphis – The Musical, and Queen’s We Will Rock You. He was seen as the top 18 male dancers of Season 9 on So You Think You Can Dance! Some regional credits include Disney’s Newsies (Race), West Side Story (Action, Arab), The Music Man (Tommy Djilas), Carousel (Roustabout), Mamma Mia!, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Memphis The Musical, Gypsy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and more.

Daniel Kermidas is currently part of the Musical Theater Faculty at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. Daniel has taught various styles of dance at colleges and studios across the country.

Daniel is the co-creator and the artistic director of the Kermidas Dance Company (KDC); a non-profit run theatrical dance production company. The company is dedicated to providing pre-professional and professional dance training to young artists and providing emerging dance artists with a place to develop new works. Daniel has directed, and choreographer shows such as Cinderella, Wonderland, A Night of New Work, and The Warehouse Concert.

Daniel Kermidas is an up and coming writer and has written and directed two original musicals. His first musical, a 1940s love war-story called, Golden Days (Endicott Performing Arts Center -2015). And the second musical, a modern coming of age story called Higher Than Rainbows (NYC- May 2018).
