The Ritz Theater & Performing Arts Center’s upcoming MainStage production of Matilda is open to Elementary-Middle-High School students (ages 8 and up), College students & Adults.

Auditions will take place on MONDAY, June 10th from 5-9pm and WEDNESDAY, June 12th from 5-9pm, at the Ritz Theater & Performing Arts Center- 222 Wyoming Ave, Scranton. Please sign up for a five-minute vocal audition slot during these hours by contacting SHERI MELCHER at 570.252.4156/ sheri@capaa.org. We will be having the Dance Audition on THURSDAY, June 13th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. All actors must attend this entire dance call. We will be making cuts throughout the evening, so parents are welcome to wait for their child downstairs in the BLACK BOX CAFE for the duration of the dance audition. If you cannot make it to one of the dates and times listed but are interested in the project, please contact Sheri Melcher to discuss an alternative audition slot.

ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTORS: Please note that the roles available for this age group require VERY STRONG singing, acting and dancing abilities. Please note that rehearsals go until 10 pm at night at least three days a week from Sept-December, and during tech week until 11 pm. There are no exceptions. These roles are for very strong and very dedicated young artists.

HIGH SCHOOL ACTORS: Please note that the roles available for this age group require STRONG acting, dancing and singing abilities.

AUDITIONS are open to Elementary-Middle-High School students (ages 8 and up), College students & Adults.

Please note that we are seeking many combinations: Strong Singer/Dancer/Actors, Strong Dancer/Singers, Strong Dancers, and Strong Singers.

AUDITION MATERIALS– Contact Sheri Melcher to let us know of your interest in attending auditions and we will send you an Audition Packet. Please prepare one of the song cuts included in the packet to be sung with a piano accompanist. Please note that we are looking for people to use strong English accents.

CALLBACKS
We will be holding callbacks after these two rounds of auditions. We will contact you directly if we would like you to come back in and read for a specific role. If called back in to read, the director will let you know which role you should be preparing for. We will ask that you sing and read all the material for that character found in the audition packet. We will also be holding callbacks for Dancers. Again, we will contact you directly, if we would like you to come back in and dance.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not asked to come in for callbacks, it DOES NOT mean you are not being considered for a role. It simply means we have seen everything we needed to see from you.

CAST LIST
Will be sent out by email before the first rehearsal.

REHEARSALS
Monday-Friday nights as needed. General time frame is between 5-10pm. We may also include some weekend rehearsals during the day time, and will definitely be using weekends closer to showtime. We will work around those students participating in CaPAA production rehearsals. Please note that not all cast members may need to be called to all rehearsals. Strong “Dancer Only” types will have a very limited rehearsal schedule-TBA. A rehearsal schedule will be sent out before the 1st rehearsal which is tentatively scheduled for MONDAY AUGUST 5th.

Please list ALL POTENTIAL CONFLICTS on your audition form. While we do our best to work around as many conflicts as possible, please be aware that too many conflicts may affect casting.

TECH & DRESS REHEARSALS
SATURDAY, Nov. 30th-WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 4th
Please hold between the hours of 10am-11pm on Nov. 30 & Dec 1 and 5-11pm on Dec 2-4. **Tech and Dress rehearsals are MANDATORY. We will NOT be able to accept ANY conflicts for these rehearsals.

PERFORMANCE DATES
THURSDAY DECEMBER 5th-SUNDAY DECEMBER 15th.
Times TBD **Performances are MANDATORY. We will not be able to accept ANY conflicts for these dates.

PRODUCTION FEE
$325 for ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (*limited need-based financial assistance/scholarship is available, please inquire.) We ask that our college students and adults sell a block of tickets.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION
SINGING AUDITION
Please prepare one of the cuts found from the show at the end of the audition packet to be sung with a piano accompanist-contact Sheri for an audition packet- sheri@capaa.org. Rehearsal tracks can be found on youtube to practice at home as well.

DANCE AUDITION
As noted there will be a two-hour dance audition on THURSDAY JUNE 13th. Please bring/wear appropriate clothing and shoes to move in.

ACTING AUDITION
As noted, we will be holding separate callback dates for those we would like to read. All of the callback scenes are found at the end of the audition packet. If called back, the director will let you know which role/roles you should be focusing on. Again, please note that we are looking for actors that can speak with a strong English accent.
